Saturday Night Headlines

The BBNR team gathered in my mancave tonight to discuss the site and what we hope to accomplish here. The excitement was in the air with every idea we through out, all in the hopes of making this site the ultimate destination for Wildcat fanatics across all of Big Blue Nation. We all had different things we wanted to share, but all of them shared one common theme, let's make this as fun and entertaining as we possibly can. So, in the days ahead, expect to read some really cool stuff that all UK fans will enjoy.

Some of the things you can expect to see in the coming days are (but not limited to)...

  • An in-depth preview of the SEC 09-10 Basketball Season
  • An official BBNR preseason Top 25
  • A really funny collection of UK related photos
  • Some inside track reports of UK recruiting
  • A preview of the upcoming college football season
  • FREE message boards and chat rooms
  • Live Blogs during UK games
  • Some flashbacks to some of our favorite UK games from the past
  • And much, much more!
We hope that sounds like fun to you, and that you'll join this growing community of UK fans and be a part of all the fun. Now, a few headlines before I go to bed...

The Pitino scandal just won't go away. I feel a little guilty even posting stuff about this anymore, but I know many of you are like us... you just can't help but look at the train wreck, even if you don't feel good about it afterward. There's a collection of articles all over the net about the details surrounding the case, and I really don't have an opinion on any of it besides what I've already posted. Basically, I just think its all very sad, and call me naive, but I'm just disappointed that Pitino made such a poor decision, and that so many people have been adversely affected by it. Now, I'm going to try avoiding saying anything else about it until some real news surfaces, in the hopes that this will just all go away.

The football scrimmage took place today, and the buzz on the blogs, message boards, and from those lucky enough to watch it in person, is that Mike Hartline looks like a guy ready to lead this football team into a new season. Of course, Hartline was in the same position this time last year, but there were far more questions surrounding him. Now, it seems the year of experience behind center, and another off season to get stronger (both physically and mentally), has finally prepared Hartline to be a solid SEC QB. I know we're all rooting for him, and hopefully fans will be patient with him and not call for an immediate replacement after his first mistake. If we want to make another Bowl game, Hartline has to play well, and he'll need our support while doing so.

Still no word about the basketball schedule or the television special that will reveal it. Seeing how it's the middle of August, it can't be far away. We'll let you know as soon as we find out something.

As mentioned earlier today, Patterson and Wall are both receiving some early talk about being candidates for player of the year awards. It's great to have two of our players getting the preseason respect, and it only adds to the extreme excitement that Big Blue Nation has for the upcoming basketball season. However, it has to be asked if anticipation is actually too high for a team full of new players and a brand new coaching staff. We've all heard Calipari try to downplay the preseason hype, but most of us have just written it off as mandatory coach-speak. But, is it really? We're not 100% sure, but we're going to talk about it more in the next few days, so stick around.

Well, I guess that's it for this 15th day of August. Not really a whole lot of groundbreaking stuff to talk about. So for now... good night and good luck.
