As I set here in my UK themed garage turned man-cave, watching the Cardinals (my favorite MLB team that I will mention from time to time) play poorly against a pretty crappy Reds team, there's quite a bit of rumblings around Big Blue Nation. I'm mainly talking about the news broke earlier tonight by the Louisville Courier Journal that Rick Pitino admitted to having consensual sex with Karen Sypher, and that he paid for her to have an abortion. He denies the allegations of rape, however. Sorry Ricky, you still look like a major creep, and that's putting it nicely. Forget the misgivings that we all had when he sought after fortune and glory in Boston, leaving the dynasty he had built at Kentucky. Also forget when we all scratched our heads as Benedict Arnold returned to Kentucky (after the epic fail in Boston) to take over for the retiring Denny Crum at our arch rival Louisville. What has transpired over the past several months with Sypher-gate has been plain sickening, tremendously more sickening than anything the man has ever done around the game of basketball. Now that he's finally admitting to having an affair, and paying $3,000 for an abortion to cover it up, I think we can all admit to having perfect 20/20 hindsight, and that his leaving Big Blue Nation in 1997 was a good thing for us, after all.
We also learned tonight what we've all expected, the UK men's basketball schedule is complete, but awaiting final approval from the SEC. After the approval is received, the Big Blue Network will reveal the newly minted schedule via a TV special. While some might laugh and scratch their head at such a move, we all know we'll be tuned in to watch whenever its finally aired. Which is exactly why they're doing it, so quit yer dang complainin'!
On another disappointing note, we also learned that UK has suspended both Jorge Gonzalez and Aaron Boyd for violations of team rules. Gonzalez is going to miss the first game and Boyd will miss a week of practice. This isn't good news from our Grid Iron Gang, but I'm still optimistic that the Cats can win enough to visit and possibly win their fourth consecutive bowl game. However, this guy over at ESPN disagrees. (Disclaimer: We're die hard UK fans and love our football program dearly. However, this site will never pretend to have equal news and views concerning the football team when compared to the men's bball program... just so you know... and knowing is half the battle. Which reminds me, the GI Joe movie was great, so check it out!)
Well that's it for now... more news and views tomorrow and some other fun stuff to knock around, so stayed tuned.
