ESPN-USA Today Top 25

The first official poll of the new season was released this morning, and Kentucky is not where we thought they'd be, but I guess we'll take it. Post your comments on this so we can all discuss it together, but it seems short-sided to have North Carolina ranked ahead of Kentucky at this point, especially considering everyone they lost.

1. Kansas (27)
2. Michigan State (3)
3. Texas
4. North Carolina (1)
5. Kentucky
6. Villanova
7. Purdue
8. Duke
9. West Virginia
10. Butler
11. Tennessee
12. California
13. Washington
14. Connecticut
15. Michigan
16. Oklahoma
17. Ohio State
18. Minnesota
19. Mississippi State
20. Georgia Tech
21. Georgetown
22. Dayton
23. Louisville
24. Clemson
25. Syracuse

  1. I have no problem with being No. 5, but North Carolina No. 4 is complete garbage.

  2. Kentucky is probably about right. We were an NIT team last year and have a lot of new faces. It's actually a pretty good ranking for them. Still not sure how UNC got where they did or who voted for them for No.1. Some ACC homer I am sure.

  3. I agree with you guys, if you had told me last year after we lost in the NIT and then Jodie left that we would even be in the top 25 i probably would not have believed you so # 5 is pretty good considering most of our best players have never played a college game yet and our best freshman and second best player may or may not be eligible for a certain period of time so alot of that suspicion could have somethin to do with us droppin a couple spots lower than we expected...

And as for North Carolina, i hate them just as much as the next guy and it sucks that they are ranked above us when i honestly feel we are better than them this year but until we (as an NIT team last year) beat them (the Defending Champs) regardless of who they lost, i have to think it is fair that they are one spot above us.

And won't it make it that much sweeter when we beat them this year if we are doin it so we can vault them in the rankings? I think so

  5. Its still a joke. Texas and UNC neither one are better than Kentucky. I can live with Kansas and MSU.

  7. we're talking about UK in top 5 here. if you ask me i think thats amazing in itself since we were nit last year. all this says to me is that not only are the coaches scared but so is the AP.

  8. Texas is really good man. They probably have the second best Freshman in the country in Avery Bradley. Their freshman class wasn't as heralded as ours, but it will have a similar impact. They also add Jai Lucas to the mix and return a stud similar to Patterson in Damion James. They have enough talent to give Kansas all they want in the Big 12. I think we are better than UNC, but they are extremely talented as well.. especially in the front court. I don't mind them getting a little more respect than us in the preseason considering last year. Hopefully our team is wired the right way and will take this is as a slight and go out to prove people wrong.

  9. I know its pretty silly to complain about Kentucky "only" being ranked 5th, but still, they should have been at worst 4th. Know way UNC loses four starters and key role players from the bench and still gets ranked ahead of a team with two national player of the year candidates and the best recruiting class of the year.
