Expectations...

Most people would agree that Coach Cal has done virtually everything right up to this point. I am certainly among those eating the delicious ice cream he and his new recruits have brought to Lexington. However, I worry that the national media will portray UK fans as ignorant and disloyal when many of us bail on the Cats at the first signs of adversity.

If you are the type fan that would actually complain about our warm-up uniforms and expect perfection, I feel sorry for you. I really feel sorry for the vast majority of Cat fans that get lumped into bed with this radical minority. The past five years, we have had good reason to be unsettled, but that is no longer the case. We are about to be the envy of all of college basketball.

However, we all have to be patient, even if we are the #2 team in the country. It is very likely we are going to look out of sync in the early going, so it would be a shock if we come out of the gates as a well oiled machine. Coach Cal's DDM offense is a great brand of basketball when done properly. His Memphis team a couple years ago was one of my favorite non-UK team to watch of all time. We probably aren't going to see this until mid-season at best. It will take the coaches and players a few weeks, at the very least, to get the chemistry in line and for the team to learn the new system.

If you are one of the people that think the sky is falling please do us all a favor and take it easy... at the very least, keep your mouth shut. If you have to talk, then just tell your dog how the Cats are playing for the back of their jersey. If there is someone out there that can actually tolerate your company, be sure to tell them we cut the cord on Gillispie too soon and that Cal's going to get us in trouble. For the rest of us... we don't want to hear it.

Thanks.

  1. Well put Austin.

Unfortunately there are many who will complain about anything. There are still people who are complaining about the "blackout" this weekend. I thought it was a fantastic idea.
