6 ain't enough...

Gomez here... while a 6-4 record is solid, it's hard not to think what might have been had UK took care of business against South Carolina and Mississippi State.  It's not really a stretch to say that the Cats should be 8-2 overall with a 4-2 record in the SEC at this point of the season.  However, injuries (and at times, just plain lackluster play) has Big Blue Nation playing the "What if?" game yet again this November.

With that said, we are going bowling again this year, and that's great.  This will be the fourth time in a row for the program, which is a major milestone for Kentucky football.  We also still have two very big, and very winnable games still on the regular season schedule... Georgia and Tennessee.  If Kentucky could win one of these (or better yet... both), they could still have an amazing season by Kentucky's standards and put forth another positive step forward for next season.

The Tennessee game is the one we all want the most, make no mistake about it.  If we win the UT game and then our fourth bowl game in a row, most will say this has been one of the best seasons of UK football ever.

Anyway you cut it, 6 wins ain't enough, and our quest for more starts on Saturday against the Bulldogs.

  1. I'd love to be able to be responsible for Kiffin missing a bowl game in his first season. Would be pretty sweet... I think we are a 7-5 team... There is a reason we are always play the what if game every year, and it is because we aren't as good as most of the SEC. We are improving, and hopefully we continue to close that gap.

  2. Actually 6 wins will be enough to send us bowling. But in order to stay out of the Purcell Tire Mayfield Bowl, we need another win. I agree with Austin, we are a 7 win team; although we should already have 7 wins, but that just didn't happen. We actually have two winable games left on the schedule, but in all reality we probably won't win both; but I do feel we will win one. A 7-5 record is a respectable campaign for the UK football program. Granted, Brooks and Co. expected bigger and better things, we aren't just there yet, but we are heading in the right direction.

  3. We were very close to having a 8-2 record right now, as we lost by a combined 9 points to Mississippi State and South Carolina. I think a 7-5 record would be nice for this team. It just sucks though because that was not their ceiling. If we were to win out, that's a big if by the way, they could finish 8-4 and have a very good bowl game. I guess we'll see, but I am not expecting even a 7-5 record with Georgia and Tennessee looming. The vols and dawgs are both fighting for better bowl placement as well. Both teams will count UK as a "must win".
