Cals Cats: Recruiting talk and SHS thoughts

-First to recruiting...Tobias Harris commits to UT...sad to see that, he seems like such a classy guy and now he has swarmed himself in thugville...heres to taking it to him for years to come.

-Talking with Cal's daughter Erin she pointed out to me that we only have a select amount of spots next year and there is some key recruits Cal believes is worth waiting for.

That being said, if you are keeping track at home this now makes Cal 1/6 for recruits that Cal offered and tried to get. We lost out on Barton, Kendrick, Irving, Payne, Harris and landed Poole. Of course to what degree we really tried is unclear...I'm not going to call out names but several of those guys were never plan A.

Of course all top coaches will lose out on recruits but if you are in the mix for tons more thats not a big deal, if you are in the mix for 100 players you can lose out on 95 of them and still have a top class...

So I'm not as concerned about recruits choosing elsewhere but what does concern me is it is getting to slim pickings, most of the top talent is committed and signed elsewhere.

The recruits we are still after unless there is a surprise is: Lamb, Jones, Leslie, Knight and Selby. We are likely going to get Knight or Selby and Leslie. Lamb we are in the top 4 for but hard to tell other then that, we were his leader for quite some time before Poole. Jones would likely stay out west if he decided today but he not signing till the fall is good for us and his interest in UK is likely the reason he decided to wait.

So not that we are in bad shape for these guys but Cal's batting average has got to go WAYYYY up from what it has been so far.

-As far as the game tonight, what can you say...they remain a work in progress. I like most of you was just hoping for a big route tonight to go rub it in the faces of all the fans of our rivals.

Of course the big eye soar is our three point shooting defense. I got to say this shocks me, of all the things I thought we would have issues with this year it wasn't defense...I heard we couldn't shoot threes...we proved tonight...ahhh yeah we can.

They hit 18 threes tonight...18...breaking a Rupp record for an opposing team.

The question is why has this happened two games in a row? Clearly not a fluke. In my opinion when they screen us our guys are not getting to the shooter fast enough. Another problem and something we will just have to live with, I know the man to man defense is the best for guarding the three but shooting has a lot to do with rhythm and when you throw the exact same defense at them over and over all game long they can stay in their rhythm. Can you imagine playing the exact same defensive play in football all game long? Mixing it up messes with rhythm. Also if you have a hot shooter which we have had one key guy two games in a row do this, face guard him all game long.

I love Cousins game...some thought he would be Morris and be lazy at times, he is everywhere...I love his hustle. He stayed out of foul trouble tonight and that seems to be the key to his success. His free throw shooting isn't great but a lot of bigs are not great at free throws, we are just spoiled having Patterson over the years who does well in this area.

Wall and Bledsoe made some sloppy plays at times trying to make some flashy highlight play but their freshman, this is to be expected. Both showed they can hit threes though, this was very helpful.

Liggins getting company in the dog house with Dodson joining the ranks. It was nice seeing Liggins actually sit with the team for this game.

Darius Miller is looking really good, he told me he was excited about playing in this style and we can now see why, ddmo is designed for him. With Dodson out it was key for him to put up threes and can drive and pull up a nice shot.

UK now plays Rider on Saturday who started off the year by beating Miss. St but then got drilled tonight losing to Virginia 79-46. They will likely get more then 46 pts against us just in three points alone...they only had 9 tonight.

Saturday UK plays at 1 est in basketball and then in football at 7:45 eastern, will be a big day for the Cats. The football game may be a wash if they hold out Cobb to get him healthy for UT...if holding out Cobb gives us a wn against UT I will take it, I would much rather beat UT then Georgia.

Go Cats!!!
