Don't Forget About Dre
There aren't a lot of concrete facts concerning the circumstances surrounding Deandre Liggins mysterious benching in the first three games of the season, and there is no timetable for his return. A lack of facts isn't going to stop me from trying to making some sense of the situation.
What we do know isn't a lot, but apparently the situation isn't academic or performance related. I care about our players just as much as the next guy. In this instance it may very well be better for all involved that Dre is in fact being punished for a mistake or misstep off the court. I can't think of an off the court misstep Liggins could have made that would be worse for his future than him simply not making the grade in practice. Anything that I would view as worse would likely have already lead to his dismissal from the team. As far as I can tell that isn't the case, so that leads me to the uncomfortable proposition of hoping that there is some minor off the court issue keeping Liggins out of action.
Given the uncertainty around this situation, in my humble opinion this would be the best case scenario for Liggins and the UK program moving forward. If the reason behind his absence is not in fact performance related, there is still a chance that he can see the court and live up to the off season hype surrounding his improvement. If there is anything I have learned over the years, you just Don't Forget About Dre. Feel free to throw down any Liggins themed rap lyrics in the comment section.

ReplyDeleteI think it's academics with Dre. He'll be back after Christmas.
ReplyDelete... comin' up to me wit ur hands out like u want somethin' free, but you won't get a crum from me, cuz i'm from the streets of Comtpon...
ReplyDeleteI may be in the minority, but I want to see Dre on the court. In this system you cannot have too many fast, talented players. Liggins never grasped Billy's high-low, half court offense, that won't be a problem if he can find himself back on the court this season.
