State of the Union...

It's hard to believe that three months ago I started this website on a whim.  My love for both creative writing and the Kentucky Wildcats convinced me that blogging about UK basketball and football here would be a great deal of fun for me, and if for no one else. However, it didn't take long for JLee and Austin to get involved, and then the Bruer brothers and Matt D quickly thereafter, all of us united by our common bond of extreme love for the Big Blue.

Now, three months later, we're still going strong, and with the focused intention of keeping things going for many more months to come.  For those of you that have been with us since the beginning, we appreciate your patience.  Those that have recently joined the fun, we also hope you'll enjoy hanging around here, as our little corner of Big Blue Nation continues to grow.

Here are a few things you can expect in the coming months...

:: Live Blogs - We've already had our first, and plan to have our next one on Friday night during the Morehead game.

:: Message Boards - At this point, we're still trying to decide if we want to build our own or partner with an existing community.  There are pros and cons either way, so we're being patient with this idea.  Please give us your feedback as to whether or not you would like to see message boards added to BBNR.

:: Podcasts - Our most recent addition to our team (someone you'll hear from eventually) is a local, independent recording artist and has agreed to oversee the technical aspects of our podcasting.  We have lined up several people to visit with us during our podcasts, such as former UK Coach Joe B Hall and CBS Sports's Gary Parrish.  We hope to get this up and running very soon, so stay tuned for that.

:: Video Vaults - Just like you saw on here today, we plan to provide videos of some of our favorite moments in the history of UK basketball and football.

:: Where were you when? - These will be personal recollections of ours, such as where were we Kentucky lost to Duke in 1992 or beat Syracuse in 1996?  We hope our readers will then share their personal memories in the comments section of the post, as well.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.  Just stick around, and we hope, you'll have a cozy online home for all your Kentucky news, views, and memories.  As always,  your feedback is appreciated.  Leave it here, or email us at bigbluenation@wk.net.

  1. Congratulations! Glad to be a part of it. As far as the message boards, I don't know what the advantages are to joining an existing community. I would like to see us start our own, and create a style of our own. As opposed to joining a board that already has that sort of thing established. I'm sure you guys have thought of this already, but that is my opinion on the matter.

  2. I am ok with whatever the masses want, I just think we should wait and do it up big.

  3. I'm definitely all for the message boards. I don't know what the pros and cons are other than what I mentioned previously. We need to go BIG, that's for sure, I'm just not sure the best way to do that.

  4. Once again, thanks for not mentioning the fact that i am contributing to this site. I let it go the first few times, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! LOL

Message boards are a COMPLETE headache... I'm a moderator for the FSU Rivals.com site... CONSTANT complaining and moaning and email just because the posters are offended because they are expected to follow the rules of not only the board, but also common human decency.

They are a GREAT draw though!!!

  6. Booker, we have several people helping with the site, but I felt obligated to mention the founding the fathers.

We're glad you're here! You're day in the sunshine is coming, I'm sure.

  8. the site is growing fast, i think the time is fast approaching where we need to get message boards to allow for even further growth. I agree with what everyone else has said about needing to wait and do it BIG. We need to be fully organized and put alot of creative thought into how we best need to do it. Im feelin an in person focus meeting sometime soon

  9. I guess I won't be invited to that meeting... I seem to be the opposite of 'focus,' lol.

Like I said before, I moderate on warchant.com... it's a total headache. It's awesome, though, as we have alot of ppl who are pretty well connected that are members of the site who can provide some inside information the media cannot.
