Kentucky debuts with some "power"...

As Kentucky Basketball fans we love rankings. AP, Coaches, RPI, all of them; but only when Kentucky is somewhere on the list. Over the last four seasons there hasn't been many moments where we eagerly anticipated the weekly polls. That has drastically changed in just a few short months with the immediate impact that Coach Cal has made.

Just last week we learned that Kentucky made the Top 5 in both the Associated Press and USA Today preseason Top 25 polls. There has been some debate that Kentucky was ranked too high by some, too low by others. However, most people agree that they most certainly belong back in the upper echelons of college basketball. Yesterday Fox Sports released their first "Power Rankings" of the season with Kentucky coming in at No. 2. ESPN will soon follow with their opening rankings for the year and it's hard to believe that Kentucky won't be near the top of those as well. So enjoy it, soak it up, this has been four years in the making. The return to relevance in NCAA basketball and unlike our recent history, I think this time we're here to stay.

  3. Personally, I would like to have seen us ranked somewhere around 10-12. When you start in the top 5, the expectations can only be one thing. While I think in the end, we will be one of the top teams, I think we'll be peaking at that time as well. When you start this high early on, there is only one way to go, and that's down. I say this because we still have a ways to go with this offense, and we have a tough pre conference schedule to boot.

  4. I agree JB but it's nice to see them up there again. Honestly they belong ahead of most of the Top 10 but you can certainly make the case that Texas and MSU could be ahead of them.
