John Wall nailed a fifteen foot jump shot with less than a second remaining, giving Kentucky a 72-70 victory over a scrappy Miami (OH) squad. Kentucky struggled with three point defense, allowing countless open looks from beyond the arc, but the Cats erased an 18 point first half deficit for their second victory of the new season. Patrick Patterson had 17 points and 10 rebounds, but the story of the game was Wall's jumper at the buzzer.
We're all still trying to catch our breath and process what we just experienced here. But keep checking back here and we'll continue with updates from Lexington!
Go Big Blue!
I knew I would remember John Walls first game as a CAT. It will be for different reasons now.
ReplyDeleteSurvive and advance. Let's hope we learn from this and move on. Had they not shot lights out from three point range, and had we not missed half our free throws, we could have won by double digits. However, you have to find ways to win, and that's what we did. A good learning experience for this young team, I hope.
ReplyDeleteThe young Cats will learn a lot from this one. I thought there might be a game or two like this one early on as they learn a new system. Cal is also learning his team and what combinations he likes on the floor. I don't think it'll be long before it starts to click for these guys. The difference between this team and our recent teams, is they still pulled out a W.
ReplyDeleteas good as advertised
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better myself guys. We are a very inexperienced team, and proved it tonight with our lackluster play. But, we fought through adversity tonight. Many of the players on this team have probably never been down 18 pts. in their lifetime. It goes to show you what kind of heart and never give up attitude this team possesses. Now they know no matter how far their down, if they keep fighting they will "HAVE A SHOT" at the end. Big Big win, I guarantee you this will make us a better team in the long run. Like my bretheren JD said, this is a game we lose in years past, goes to show you this year WILL be different.
ReplyDeleteScrappy Squad is an understatement. Those guys are solid and played fantastic. Lots of respect to Miami (OH).
