2,000 mark crossed... finally

Gomez here...

There was a time during the dark days of Billy Clyde, and the rise of UNC's dominance under Roy Williams, that I honestly didn't think Kentucky would cross the 2,000 mark first. Kentucky was struggling against teams like Gardner Webb, VMI, and San Diego, while UNC was winning National Championships. That sort of disparity couldn't allow our lead in wins to last much longer.

Then, Todd and Barnhart pulled the trigger and sent Billy G packing, just days before getting what Dick Vitale called a "Slam Dunk Hire" in John Calipari. Critics came out and still lurk (mainly around the ESPN headquarters) but there's no denying what this man has done for Kentucky basketball in a very short amount of time. Let's take a closer look...

:: #1 recruiting class
:: Ranked #3 in both polls
:: 12-0 for the first time in over 20 years
:: Lead UK to the 2,000 mark before "the other team in blue"

Yes, Forde, Knight, and the rest of the ESPN mouthpieces can spout their hate, based on opinions and not facts, but you can't argue with what John Calipari has done for Kentucky basketball.

Congratulations to everyone who has ever worn Blue. 2,000 wins, baby... finally.

  2. 2000 is pretty sweet. Hats off to the athletic department for making it a special night for our program. Today's game was so-so, but it's bound to be hard to get up for Long Beach State right here before Christmas and not much on the line. I am ready for conference play. This team needs to be challenged before it reaches it's full potential.
