The RPI?

I'm guessing that the equation used to determine the RPI looks something like this...

Because the latest RPI rankings are almost laughable...

1 Duke 7-1
2 Kansas St. 8-1
3 West Virginia 7-0
4 St. John's 8-1
5 Texas 8-0
6 Temple 8-2
7 Purdue 9-0
8 New Mexico 10-0
9 Connecticut 6-2
10 Syracuse 10-0
11 Washington 6-2
12 Southern Miss 3-1
13 Georgetown 8-0
14 Villanova 9-1
15 California 6-3
16 Texas A&M 7-2
17 Western Carolina 8-1
18 William & Mary 6-2
19 Kansas 9-0
20 VA Commonwealth 6-2
21 Kentucky 10-0
22 Tulsa 6-1
23 Missouri State 9-0
24 UNLV 6-1
25 Cornell 7-2

Aren't you glad that College Basketball crowns their champs differently than football? The RPI might very well be a valid tool used in the decision process for Selection Sunday, but their rankings are always a little wacky. Take for instance Kentucky's 21st position against UConn's, a team they beat head to head on a neutral court. Also, look at some of the other teams ranked higher than both Kentucky and Kansas... just crazy.

Anyway, it doesn't really count for anything except for bloggers to complain about. Discuss below.

  1. This is craptastic. . .of course this stuff always works itself out when conference play starts.

  2. Kentucky will quickly move up the ranks in January. No worries. . .
