Gomez here...We asked you guys what game you want to see added to Kentucky's schedule, and the results weren't that surprising...

Who doesn't want to see Kentucky and Duke play more often? Dating back to the 1978 National Title game, the contests between these two schools have been classics (for the most part). Of course, the 1992 Regional Final (that featured Laettner's playful stomp to the chest of Aminu Timberlake that should have got him bounced from the game, but didn't, so he was still in the game to hit the buzzer beater to win in overtime) is considered by most as the best college basketball game of all time.
Not to be outdone in the minds of Kentucky fans is the 1998 Regional Final game, which saw Kentucky battle back from 17 down with less than ten minutes to go to win the game, allowing them to advance to the Final Four and eventually win their 7th National Title. I would love to see Kentucky and Duke agree to a four year series with two games in Rupp and two games in Cameron. That would be alot of fun.
I hate Duke.. I didn't vote for them in this poll. I don't want to play them. It isn't out of fear, but I just don't want to have to see them talking about Laettner's shot when we play. That is all they are going to talk about. I just don't want to think about that.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to beat them, because I have no doubt that we will be a better overall program than them in the coming years... but I think they benefit more from ESPN rehashing the glory years where they pulled that games out their arse's.. screw Duke.
I don't want to play them. There are more high profile games we can play that are beneficial to us. I'd love to play UConn in MAdison Square Garden every year. Play Kansas and UCLA in an alternating neutral court game... Duke stands to gain a lot more than we do, and they are always peak early. They might actually beat us early in the season whereas we are going to be better most years in MArch.

ReplyDeleteI don't want to see us waste a game on Minnesota or UCLA really. Kansas or Duke would be much better for recruiting.
