The speculation train is a grim and harrowing mode of transportation. However, when reading the NBA trade rumors this morning on ESPN, it got me to thinking and it got me asking this question: Could the future of Coach Cal be tied to LeBron James and his movements?
First the part of the article from ESPN that got me thinking:
First the part of the article from ESPN that got me thinking:
They'll (The Clippers) have Baron Davis at the point, Eric Gordon at the shooting guard, Blake Griffin at the 4 and Chris Kaman at the 5....all they need is a small forward. LeBron James anyone? Salary Cap Expert Larry Coon tweeted: LeBron could come in and pick his coach
The obvious sentence that stood out for me was "LeBron could come in and pick his coach". With the relationship that LeBron and Coach Cal has, plus the pieces that are in LA along with the alluring spotlight that LA presents both on the court and off the court with movies, advertising and financial opportunites it is plausable to think that LeBron could get Coach Cal to come with him.
LeBron would get the media, advertising, Hollywood opportunities that LA brings and Coach Cal gets to redeem himself in the NBA on the biggest stage, outside of New York, that the NBA can offer. Plus he gets to come back into the NBA with the best player in the NBA and a loaded deck to go with it.
Food for thought here at lunch... sorry to make you lose it.
I just think it's too soon. Maybe I'm naive or my blue tinted glasses are too thick, but I just have that gut feeling that he's barely got his boxes unpacked and he is just getting his feet wet. I hope I'm right.
ReplyDeleteJBR... It is very soon, but Memphis fans didn't think Cal was going anywhere. You just never know. Its a big time opportunity where location, players and money line up perfectly. Which he has that here at UK too. Just depends on if he wants to be a college legend or redeem himself at the pro level. On a percentage base I would say 10% chance of it happening but I just wanted to get that thought out there.
ReplyDeleteHere are my thoughts on this scenario. First off, I think the Nets make more sense than the Clips. Jay Z is affiliated with the Nets, they have Russian Mark Cuban taking over with blank checks, and they are moving to Brooklyn soon.
ReplyDeleteI think Bron is smart enough to know better than go to the Clippers. Nobody can save the Clippers unless their owner sells that franchise, or he dies. IF you read Simmons you know how sleazy Sterling is. He is being sued for discriminatory real estate dealings. He is a racist. Just can't see Bron not seeing that.
As for Calipari leaving, if we win a championship this year I will be fine with it. Not happy, but I will at least stay sane about it. IF we don't, he will be beneath Pitino in the scumbag hall of fame. I will turn on him faster than Usain Bolt. It will be so cruel to be on top like this and then have it taken away by the NBA. I don't think Cal would leave for an average job, but I could see him joining forces with Bron.
Cal isn't going anywhere and Bron is going to the Knicks or staying in Cleveland. I'll have a story on the subject later today.
ReplyDeleteIs it too early to start naming possible replacements?
ReplyDeleteSomebody better start monitoring flights from Gainesville to Lexington... haha!
I hope it doesn't happen, and I don't think it will.
No way Cal leaves in my opinion. He is finally on top of the mountain in college basketball and that's where he is going to stay. Cal is a smart man....."he knows what greatness is"......(for you Forrest Gump fanatics).....we've all seen what happens when college coaches go to the NBA.......failure. If he leaves I'll lick Toon's a#^*! on Hwy 51 in front of the Carlisle Weekly during rush hour traffic......is there rush hour traffic???
