Friday morning news and views...

Gomez here...

The picture above is from one of our readers, Nichole Erickson. This is her Farmville estate on Facebook, and we're very impressed. We certainly like to give attention to the great accomplishments of our readers, and this is certainly worth the acknowledgement. If you have pictures of you doing something silly, like the John Wall dance in your underwear, or of something really cool, like your UK Farm on Facebook, send them to bigbluenation@wk.net. We'd love to show you at your best (or worst), so we can all enjoy your handy work, or lack of good judgement; whatever the case may be. Now, on to the morning news and views...

Vandy went to Ole Miss last night and beat the slumping Rebels on their home floor. The former nationally ranked squad is now on the bubble, and without some quality wins down the home stretch of the season, will most likely find themselves in the NIT. Meanwhile, the Commodores took care of business, setting up a nice showdown in Nashville tomorrow night. Rumor has it that Michael and Austin might be in attendance, and if so, expect alot of cool coverage from the road tomorrow night. We'll keep ya posted.

Meanwhile, our former coach Tubby Smith kept his NCAA hopes alive with a quality win over #16 Wisconsin. The Golden Gophers host #4 Purdue next week, and that win would really (really, really, really) help their NCAA chances even more. Of course, they'll have to win some of the other games still on their schedule, but all of those are winnable, so consider Minnesota's season boiling down to the Purdue game on Wednesday night. Why do we care? Well, some of us don't, but I've always been a Tubby fan and would like to see him do well up there in the Frozen Tundra that is Minnesota. I'm sure some of you feel the same way.

While the Minnesota win was a big upset, it wasn't the biggest one of the night. That would have to belong to the Lions of Loyola Marymount, who upset #9 Gonzaga 74-66. The Zags now have four games left that they should dominate, so in the grand scheme of things, they probably didn't hurt their seeding too much. For whatever reason, Gonzaga continues to be everyone's darling, and they'll get their recognition on Selection Sunday, whether they actually deserve it or not.

Our gals won their game last night, absolutely killing the Gators at home in front of nearly 7,000 fans. The Lady Cats have now improved to 22-4 overall and 10-3 in the SEC. Last night was also the Pink Zone game, where the Ladies wore pink jerseys to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. Head coach Matt Mitchell will be auctioning off the pink tie he wore, and the team's pink jerseys, with all proceeds going to the the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. All in all, a great night for our Women's Basketball program.

Well, that's all for now... keep checking back throughout the day for more coverage on tomorrow night's game, and other random tidbits for you to enjoy.
