Back in October, I said the Tar Heels were way overrated. Sure, they have a great coach, and were bringing in a great recruiting class, but you can't lose that high level of talent and not miss a beat; I don't care who's on the sideline. However, most voters thought I was wrong, and the Tar Heels were ranked in every preseason top 10 that was published or released.
Anyway, I hate to say "I told you so," but you know what? I told you so! Mark Schlabach at ESPN.com has written a nice little piece about the recent downfall of UNC, and I have to say, I find it humorous (sorry JLee). The Tar Heels are on the verge of being one of only three teams to ever win the national title and then fail to make the NCAA tourney in the following year.
I guess Ole' Roy has earned the benefit of the doubt, but anyone with a brain should've been able to see this coming from a mile away.
I'm just saying.

I didn't say we couldn't enjoy the UNC slump, I just said not to put too much stock in it. To call UNC irrelevant would be silly, but they certainly won't factor into March this year.
ReplyDeleteThere is a team in Lexington that is about to have a similar exodus. If we lose Bledsoe, we might not make the NCAA next year. We will have roughly the same talent as what UNC has this year. We would still have a chance to be a top 25 team, but we won't have the same margin for error Cal's teams will normally enjoy. UNC had a top 25 team this year, but got some bad breaks and didn't have the experience level to pull through it. I am not predicting that to happen next year, but it is at least possible.
ReplyDeleteI totally disagree. We will definatley drop in talent, but we'll still be there come tourney time. Dodson, Orton, Miller, Hood (who will play a more relavent role), and with newcomers Poole and possibly Knight as well as another top 20 recruit; we'll be fine. Plus I don't think Bledsoe is going anywhere, the only way he even sniffs the pro's this year is if he goes off in the NCAA tournament and averages 20 pts. a game and leads us to a national championship. That's not going to happen, with the players I've mentioned, plus Bledsoe, and the new comers coming in we'll make the tourney with ease. Probably a 2 or 3 seed. Calm way down!!!
ReplyDeleteNot saying we can't win it all this year (we will), I was just saying Bledsoe will not be the main reason.
