TGIF!

Gomez here...

Good morning everyone. Today is another Friday, which makes today great, if for no other reason. But to be honest, we've got alot of things to be happy about today, so lets talk about it...

First of all, I don't know if you had the chance to watch "Under the Lights: Kentucky Basketball" on FSS last night, but I hope you did because it was awesome. I know I'm biased and my love for the Wildcats casts everything into a deep shade of blue, but I have to say, the show was really enjoyable. It was basically a 30 minute love fest for Coach Cal and the UK program, and I'm sure it would serve as a great tool for potential recruits.

Also last night, the women's team beat Georgia, running their record to 21-3 overall and an impressive 9-2 in the always tough SEC. Mitchell and Company are working on something special over there and we're excited for their continued success.

In other news, our former coach Tubby Smith continues to struggle in Minnesota. In a season that started with promise and a top 25 ranking, the Golden Gophers have really stumbled and are in real danger of missing the NCAA tourney. Last night, the Gophers fell to Michigan at home, which might be a sad footnote to this season's missed potential in the frozen tundra of the upper midwest. Some critics have gone so far as to say that Tubby's job could be on the line, but I think that's just silly talk stemming from the obvious frustration in Minnesota. While some are no doubt bummed out about this season's epic fail, I don't think Tubby's job is in any real danger or anything. In my opinion, Tubby will be at Minnesota for as long as he wants to be, and I really think he'll right the ship sooner or later.

Yesterday, you might have heard about Rick Pitino's situation with the New Jersey Nets, and if you're like most of us around here, you don't believe a word he says about not being interested. We're confident that he wanted the job but the feelings weren't mutual. To compound insult with injury, Louisville went to St. John's last night and was blown out by the Red Storm. St. John's never trailed in the game, and Louisville might as well have stayed on the bus. I've said it once, and I'll say it again... Rick Pitino's career is over.

Tomorrow is the big GameDay event in Lexington, and we're super excited about it. Check back tomorrow for our full coverage of the event and again tomorrow night to follow our reactions to the game itself.

As always, stay tuned for more news and views and hopefully a visit from Fancy Face. We miss her.
