So you're not into the Winter Olympics, and neither am I. I mean the Summer Olympics are where its at, but no matter how hard NBC has tried, they can't get me interested in the winter games. In the summer, you have basketball, beach volleyball, track and swimming and simply more entertaining sports to watch. While I'm sure there are some that enjoy the winter games just as much, don't consider me one of them. Not when there's college basketball to watch anyway.
So, if you're like me, and are looking for something to watch this evening besides athletes playing in the snow, here's a few of the bigger match-ups of the evening...
#4 Purdue at #12 Ohio State (Full Court, 5:30 PM CST)
We're pulling for Ohio State here because Purdue could be in the mix for a #1 seed and we want to keep as firm a grip on our position as possible. Should be a good game.
#6 Duke at Miami (ESPN, 6:00 PM CST)
Though unranked, Miami is a pretty good team and are currently on the NCAA bubble. A win tonight would get them as one of the last few in, in my opinion, and a Duke loss is the next best thing to a Kentucky win.
#17 Texas at Missouri (ESPN2, 8 PM CST)
How the mighty have fallen. Since being ranked #1, the Longhorns have fallen apart, and now, they have a tough road test at Mizzou. Ultimately, I don't really care who wins, but it'll be worth taking a look from time to time during my nightly round of channel surfing.
Georgia at #18 Tennessee (ESPN360, 7 PM CST)
The Vols look to take a chapter from Cal's book and "Bounce Back" against the Bulldogs. Georgia is playing much better these days, but still only have 3 SEC wins. They'll have a tough challenge before them tonight, and as much as I hate it, we really need the Fight Pearls to win, just to keep our RPI and SOS intact.
Notre Dame at Louisville (ESPN2, 6 PM CST)
Similar to the Tennessee game, we really need Louisville to win to help our own selfish efforts to achieve a #1 seed. Still, you won't see me crying if the Irish pull off what might be a minor upset at Freedom Hall, especially after the Cards just beat the Orange at Syracuse.
South Carolina at Arkansas (ESPN360, 8 PM CST)
This is a no-brainer. We hate South Carolina more now than ever thanks to their efforts in removing us from the #1 spot in the rankings. Plus, former Kentucky star John Pelphrey is fighting to keep his job at Arkansas. With that said, it should be no surprise that I'm pulling for the Hawgs tonight and hope they beat the Cocks. (sorry about that... couldn't resist)
La Tech at Utah State (ESPN 2, 10 PM CST)
Proving my love for college basketball, I'm actually pretty interested in this game. Both teams have won 20 games already and are on the NCAA Bubble while fighting to win the WAC regular season championship. It should be a good game for you to check out too, especially if Letterman or the Olympics don't scratch your late night TV watching itch.
Well, that's pretty much it. Its a good, but not great, slate of games for your viewing pleasure this evening, some of which might actually have some implications on Kentucky's seeding on Selection Sunday.
More later...
