Holla at Cha Boi.... Day 3

On day three of the SEC Tournament it was a big blue blitz. If the scalpers weren’t Cats Fans before this week, they are now. Tickets were going for an absurd amount, ranging from $250 to $400. Kentucky’s passion for college basketball may have lead to a pretty big dent in many wallets, but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of fans who made the trip down to the Music City. It is a Mardi Gras type atmosphere, and a perfect storm for Wildcat fans.

After a lackluster effort against Alabama, The Kentucky Wildcats players matched the passion of their fans today, putting on an awesome display of college basketball as the Wildcats dominated the Tennessee Volunteers 74-45. Beating Bruce and the Vols is always a lot of fun, and today was no exception. Seeing the Bruce’s post game comments complaining about the officiating only made the win that much sweeter. Show some class Bruce, you got whooped by the best team in the nation. If your team can’t keep its composure when one call goes the wrong way, that is a direction reflection on you as a coach.

Possibly the most exciting development was the young Cats finally showing a killer instinct. Gotta give a shout out to Jeanine Edwards for reporting that Calipari told his team he wanted to win by 25. The ability to put teams away has been one of the biggest warts for this young team, and it is somewhat comforting going into the big dance to finally see them put a team away when they got them on the ropes.

Also comforting was the play of Eric Bledsoe. He played well enough in the Alabama game, but today was one of the best games of his young career. If he can play close to this level over the next 7 games, you have to like Kentucky’s chances. He has seemed to let his emotions hold him back a little bit at times, which is what you would expect from any freshman. Today he played with a lot of poise, and let the game come to him. Keep it up Eric!

Demarcus Cousins is a beast. That is about all I have to say about that. Also, Melvin Goins doesn’t want anything to do with Big Cuz. Goins cheap shot on Cousins is right in line with what you would expect from the Vols, and yet another example of today being the Pros vs. Cons.

I don’t think there is a team in the nation, not even Kansas, that could of beaten the Cats today. When they are hitting threes they cannot be beat, period. They beat the 14th ranked team in the nation by 29 points on a day they missed 14 free throws.

Now we turn our eyes to tomorrow and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. State has had played well thus far in the tournament and the championship game tomorrow will not be an easy one. MSU poses a potential threat considering how they have shot thus far in Nashville. If Kentucky can keep pace from beyond the arc it won’t be close, if they revert to their shooting performance in the quarter finals it’s anyone’s game. Don’t forget that Mississippi State is still playing for a NCAA bid and Kentucky has pretty much cemented their No. 1 seed.

It should be a good showdown at high noon in Music City. I like our chances, but I think it’ll be a much tougher test than the lackluster Vols gave the Cats today. We’ll be along in the morning with our Championship predictions but for now we are going to enjoy our last night among the Big Blue Mist. See you tomorrow.
