Old UK Coaches finding new homes soon?

Gomez here...

Rumors are still floating around that Tubby and Billy could be finding new homes very soon.

There has been a persistent thought that Houston would be very interested in Billy Gillispie when Penders was either fired or resigned, which has now happened. Meanwhile, everyone from CBS to KSR still thinks Auburn is close to locking up Tubby Smith as their new coach.

Personally, I think both could be great moves by these two guys. First of all, Billy Clyde is from Texas and has done great work at similar programs in the Longhorn State already, so he would be a good fit, to say the least. That is, of course, if the Houston decision-makers can look past some of the boneheaded mistakes the man has made since being fired at UK.

As for Smith, I think he would have an easier time building a program at Auburn than he does at Minnesota. Auburn is about to launch a new arena this fall, and a guy like Tubby should be able to recruit at a high level down there. And who wants to live where there's snow on the ground for 9 months out of the year and the basketball team plays their home games in a barn? It isn't a stretch to think Tubby could attract better talent to a warmer climate and new arena.

We'll keep our eyes and ears open as these stories develop further.
