Gomez here...
Can you smell that... can you feel it? Madness is in the air, folks, and it's finally time to get down wit' it! In just a few short hours, we'll be tipping off the 2010 NCAA tournament in earnest, so if you haven't done your brackets yet, you better get hopping!
It's the most awesome two days of sports all year long... wall-to-wall basketball, from coast to coast. Here's a quick hitting list of the games that matter the most to us...
Florida vs. BYU - 11:20 AM CST -The SEC's Florida Gators take the floor first against the MWC's BYU Cougars. I picked Florida to win this game, but I'm not 100% sure with that pick. I'm just hoping for a decent showing from the SEC, so I used some wishful thinking with this pick.
Murray State vs. Vandy - 1:30 PM CST - This is a trendy upset pick by alot of the media's talking heads, as well as our President Obama. Now, I realize I just said I was pulling for the SEC, but I'll go ahead and contradict myself and say that I'm pulling for Murray in this one. I actually picked Murray to the Sweet 16, which would be epic, and I really do think they'll beat slumping Vandy, despite them having the best coach ever.
Kentucky vs. ETSU - 6:15 PM CST - We all know this is the game we're all waiting for, and I fully expect a beat down of the Buccaneers of East Tennessee State. A 16 seed has never beat a 1 seed, and just like my buddy said over the weekend, they're due one, but it won't be this year. Unless Pine Bluff beats Duke... I know we'd all love to see that! Kentucky by 25.
Texas vs. Wake Forest - 8:30 PM CST - This is a game we'll be watching with great interest because should Kentucky win their first round game (and they will), the Wildcats will play the winner of this game. I picked Texas to win here, but just like most 8-9 match-ups, it could go either way. It'll be interesting to see which team earns the right to face our boys in blue.
Tennessee vs. San Diego St - 8:45 PM CST - The SEC's Tennessee Vols will round out the first day with a night cap against San Diego State. This is actually a pretty tough draw for Bruce Pearl, and they'll have their hands full with Aztecs. Coaching veteran Steve Fisher (formerly coach of the Fab Five at Michigan) has built a strong program over there, and they'll come ready to play. Still, I picked Tennessee to win, and for the SEC to go 3-1 on day one of the dance.
