Nightmare in the Bluegrass

Two years ago in San Antonio, the Nightmare began. Kansas forced overtime against Memphis on a last second shot by Mario Chalmers and went on to win against Coach Cal's Tigers. While Kansas isn't at the top of my most hated list, I would still rather have no champion for the 2008 season (which would have happened if Memphis had won, now that they've had to vacate all their wins from that year) than have them win it all.

NIGHTMARE METER: LOW

Now this is where things get scary. Last season, Big Blue Nation had to watch the Cats get bounced from the "Not Invited Tournament" and turn around a short time later to watch that team with the "baby" blue jerseys absolutely rout the overachieving hometeam, Michigan State. This game was brutal and after the first minute, I gave up on an upset and shut my TV off to avoid having Nightmares for a week.

NIGHTMARE METER: DANGEROUSLY HIGH

Finally, Last night was another chapter in one of the scariest three year spans imaginable for a UK fan. The overachieving hometeam (see a theme here?) Butler, almost came up with the Cinderella upset that everyone but a few loyal Crazies were hoping for. However, in the end, the Nightmare got even worse when Hayward's heave missed by inches, giving the Devil his 4th National Title.

NIGHTMARE METER: APOCOLYPTIC

I know the past three years have been pretty scary, but we have Coach Cal at the helm now. It sucks to watch our rivals bring home the banners while we wait for #8, but Big Blue Nation will get its turn. Actually, my gut says our turn will be very, very soon; especially with Cal bringing in top players every single year. So just sit back, relax, and save your energy for our next shot at title #8. GO BIG BLUE!!!

NIGHTMARE METER: SLOWLY DROPPING
