Patrick Patterson on the fence...

Gomez here...

Patrick Patterson is still trying to decide on whether to stay at UK for his senior season or depart for the NBA draft. He's got a few weeks before the deadline, and we know there's a number of things he's most likely considering. To be honest, there's pros and cons on both sides of the decision.

With that in mind, here's just a few of things that might be going through his mind during this important consideration process...

PRO: If Patrick stays, there's a great chance he could dethrone Dan Issel and become UK's all time leading scorer. Patrick would only need to score 575 points to eclipse's Issel's record of 2138 points. Right now, Patrick is #13 on the list with 1564 points. Now that the days of really good college baskeball players staying all four years are long gone, if Patterson were to stay and break the scoring record, it is one that will most likely stand the test of time, etching Patrick's name into immortal status among the elite of all-time UK greats.

CON: If Patrick stays, he runs the risk of getting hurt and harming his draft status. This is a no brainer, I know, but still, it's an important element that all NBA prospects have to weigh in the balance when deciding to return to school or go on to the next level.

PRO: If Patrick stays, he'll join another stellar recruiting class (Poole, Kanter, etc...), and solid returning role players (Miller, Liggins, Hood, Harrelson, etc...) and could lead Kentucky to the Final Four and a possible National Championship. It's not beyond the realm of possiblity that Kentucky could be even better next season, especially if Patrick stays and Cal locks up a few more top notch recruits.

CON: With the potential NBA lockout looming on the horizon, now might be the best time for Patrick to move on since next summer could be clouded with a great deal of uncertainty, to say the least. If Patrick goes now, he'll get in the league, make some mega dollars, and just wait out the NBA choas. If he stays at Kentucky, he'll do the same.... but without the money in the bank from playing a season of NBA basketball.

Again, these are just a few of things that might be going through Patrick's mind, and if we wanted to, we could take all day and make a list that's a mile long. However, we think you get the idea.

Personally, we hope he stays, and we hope he breaks Issel's record while leading UK to an 8th national championship. It could happen, folks. Keep your fingers crossed.
