I'll start this post off with a very honest statement... I have no idea what's going on. Not with recruiting, not with Darnell Dodson or Daniel Orton, and not with any of the other players that may or may not be contemplating leaving school early for the NBA or transferring to another program. While there are plenty of other bloggers and journalists that are sharing their opinions on the matter, we have to remember, that's all they are... opinions.
I promise you, everyone will know soon enough who's staying and who's going and what new recruits will join the fold this fall. Just be patient and weather the current storm of uncertainty with all of us here at the BBNR.
Now, on to a few things we do know...
:: Billy Clyde didn't get the Houston gig. Instead, James Dickey, former UK assistant and head coach at Texas Tech, did get the job. Personally, I think this was the wrong choice, because I really think Gillispie would have been a good fit at Houston, and far better than Dickey. So with most of the jobs BCG was trying for already taken, it seems he'll have to settle for a head coaching job with a very small school known for everything but basketball or as an assistant at larger school. Or he could just set out another year. He doesn't have to have the money right away, so don't be surprised if he doesn't just set out another season.
:: The NCAA is strongly considering the expansion to a 96 team field. We've heard speculation about this all season, but its starting to seem more and more like a reality. Right now the plans seem to be give the top 32 teams a bye to the second round. Another thing being discussed is the possibility of giving automatic bids to both the conference tournament champs and the regular season champs just to make sure the regular season doesn't become completely irrelevant. If this does happen, and it sure seems likely at this point, we might be seeing the last post season NIT right now so savor it, folks... if that's possible.
:: A couple of Johns (Cal and Wall) won post season Rupp awards as Coach of the Year and Player of the Year respectively. This is the first time that both awards went to individuals at the same school.
:: A "One More Year" March is going on Lexington tonight, a last ditch effort by fans to convince Kentucky's big guns to come back to school for one more year. It'll do no good, but I guess it's worth a shot. If you're in the Lexington area (I'm not) look for the mob of blue walking towards Wildcat lodge.
That's all for now, folks. Stay in touch.
