Friday Night Lights

In honor of my favorite television show (as well as one of my favorite movies and books), I've decided to call my Friday evening post "Friday Night Lights." If you do not watch Friday Night Lights, you're missing out on one of the most intelligent, well written and vastly entertaining shows on television today. Season four is about to start on Direct TV's 101 Network, and will air on NBC beginning next spring. The first three seasons are available on DVD, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

The buzz for the upcoming college basketball season is starting to increase as Midnight Madness is now only two months away. Fox Sports has a great preview of the upcoming season that you should check out. Jeff Goodman's preseason top 25 seems to be following the popular trend of ranking Kansas #1 and Kentucky #2. It's really hard to argue against that, especially after losing Jodie Meeks to the NBA draft. To me, it really doesn't matter. It's been so long since we've been a serious preseason contender, I'm just tickled to be in the conversation. As we get closer to October 16, BBNR will post our preseason top 25 for all of us to discuss. We'll also break down the SEC teams, as well.

The basketball team isn't the only one garnering a preseason buzz. The football version of the Cats has some people talking, as well... namely, Trevard Lindley. As we mentioned yesterday, he's already on the watch list for the preseason defensive player of the year awards, and now, ESPN has named him to their first defensive team All-America. We don't want to sound like a broken record around here, but the importance of Lindley having a successful season, if the Cats expect to go bowling for a fourth consecutive season, cannot be overstated. We're proud of Lindley and excited that he's receiving the preseason notoriety he deserves.

Some other news has been floating around the internet but I'm getting sleepy and therefore I'm too lazy to link the source stories. If you can't take my word for it, Google is your friend. In short, Dan Issel has filed for bankruptcy. He joins Antoine Walker as another former Wildcat to make poor financial decisions resulting in a free fall into major debt. We wish Dan and Antoine the best as they try to rebound from these recent setbacks. It's like they always say, "It's better to have been rich and lost it, than to have never been rich at all." Or something like that.

In closing, I wanted to also take this opportunity to thank our readers and Facebook fans for their support and readership so early on in this journey. It's been overwhelming to get such positive feedback in only a few days time, and I want you all to rest assured that we're sticking with this for the long haul, and we hope y'all will, as well.

That's it for this 14th day of August. Good night and good luck.
