Florida Game Thoughts

Ouch! That was a rough one. We seemed to be able to do nothing all day Saturday. But we can possibly take some solace in a few things.

I ended up scoring some pretty sweet seats in the end zone from a friend. I felt good about that until the first quarter when the game got way to out of hand. Our offense looked stagnant and our defense didn't seem very good (at least not what it should be). The Gators seemed to be able to get what they wanted and go where ever the needed to go. We were dealing with the number 1 team in the nation but after initial reports of Tebow and others being sick prior to the game the feeling of the stadium was that we would have a shot. We would still need to play great, but being at home if we played at our peak I had the feeling that the crowd really thought we were going to upset the Gators, at least scare them. That stayed until the punt block in the end zone (which apparently we are supposed to let Florida do at least once a year, I think we should trying something differently personally, like not letting the block it BUT HEY, what do I know, I'm not a football coach.)

Anyway the crowd still stayed in the game, which was good to see. Most of the people I was sitting around did think we could still get back into it, which is new. That should be a testament to what Coach Brookes has built here. UK is no longer a doormat, we've slugged a few number 1's in the face (LSU 2 years ago) and put some scares into people (like Georgia last year). Where in previous years we never would have been in the game. That's one thing we can take away. I didn't necessarily like the play calling at all times but I'd say, at least with me Brooks has a pretty significant grace period to do whatever he wants. We are getting decent recruits and have been to (and won) 3 straight bowl games. That's incredible. And who cares what bowls they are. My whole life as a UK fan, football has been mostly an afterthought, something to keep me busy until Midnight Madness.

On a side note that highlight of the game was obviously the Tebow sack. That was brutal. I was sitting close enough to hear it (but it was so loud so was everyone else). I'll be honest, that's a guy I would love to hate but can't because he plays the game so hard with such passion and may be the nicest person on earth. So I was glad to see him get up (I was also glad to see him not come back out on the field though). Though the hit does change things for some upcoming matchups that were highly anticipated. http://www.sportspickle.com/might-have-heard:80/kentucky-de-advances-to-face-chuck-norris-in-dramatic-upset Although I'll be honest, as much as I like UK and its players We are a huge underdog and I'd probably take the other guy in this one.

  1. I guess you have a little more faith in Brooks. I still think we are the doormat. This is how I look at it. In the 6 years before Brooks, the 'Cats were 15-33 in the SEC. Not counting this year, Brooks' record in the last 6 years is 13-35. Yeah I know the 'Cats are going to bowl games now, but I would like to just compete in the SEC.
