Halloween Football Bash!

Tomorrow night, the Mississippi State Bulldogs travel to Kentucky for a special Halloween night of football. As we've already discussed, there will be a new "black-out" emphasis as everyone is encouraged to wear black in honor of the spookiest of all spooky nights and a majorly important football game.

Kentucky's record now rests at 4-3, meaning only two more wins will make them Bowl eligible. Next week, we play Eastern Kentucky University, which will be a 5th win, which leaves one more win to earn, down the final stretch of the season. If UK can win at home tomorrow night, and then take care of business as expected against EKU, those last few games will be less important, as any SEC team with 6 wins will surely get a Bowl invite. However, a loss tomorrow night makes those last few games critical for the continued success of our program. Although winnable, the last three games of the season will be tough. Let's take a closer look at the remaining conference games after this weekend...

November 14: at Vandy
After Mississippi State and Eastern, this is the game we have the best chance to win. We shouldn't let their current record of 2-6/0-5 give us a false sense of security though. Vanderbilt always seems ready to play Kentucky, especially when we play at their home field in Nashville. Every SEC game is a battle, so look for the 'Dores to be ready to battle when the Cats come'a callin'.

November 21: at Georgia
The Bulldogs is a tale of two teams, as has been the case for the last couple of years. While talented and athletic, a stiff schedule and multiple injuries have lead them to a less than impressive record compared to their lofty expectations. They play Florida this weekend, so we'll know even more about their current state after that beast of a game. However, regardless of how they play against the number 1 team in the country this weekend, Kentucky will have their hands full on the 21st.

November 28: Tennessee at home
It's been a bazillion years since Kentucky beat the Volunteers, but this year could be the year the infamous streak ends. However, this is another game where records can be tossed out the window. Tennessee has lost some close to some very good teams. It will be a tough battle and a game that both teams feel like they need in the worst ways. I'm looking at the Cats pulling it out in a squeaker.

But first things first... the Bulldawgs are coming to town, and we have to take care of business. Look for Cobb and company to play inspired ball, and I predict a Wildcat victory, 31-21.

GO BIG BLUE, BABY! AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN, KIDDIES!

  1. This is huge weekend for UK football. As Joker Phillips recently said, this game could be the difference between a great season or just another good one.

  2. Gotta win this one if we want a decent chance of an 8 win season!
