Todd breaks silence on Wall. . .kinda

There has been a lot of smoke this past week on the eligibility of Wall. I am not going to pretend to know all the facts around the situation but I can say that I am not overly worried about it. We do know that it involves Wall and his former AAU coach who at one point was acting as an agent. We also know that SEC Commissioner Slive said there were some issues concerning Wall and was quoted in the Forde story last week. Until Forde proves otherwise, I treat everything he writes about Cal and UK as a hit piece. I think it's well documented what his motives are and what coach he has shown allegiance to in the bluegrass.

Today ESPN.COM ran another story which quoted our own President Lee Todd on how the University was handling the situation. Still, there isn't anything really negative about the story other than to plant seeds of doubt concerning if and when Wall might be eligible at Kentucky.

It appears to be an issue that the NCAA isn't going to get involved with (yet), but there are definitely questions to be answered...

"It's an issue that we've been working on and it's one where we're protecting the player," Todd said. "We don't know what the answer will be, but when it comes out we'll be transparent."

Todd's response is about the only one he can make. The program has every right to be tight lipped and to protect their student athlete during this process. The fact that they aren't saying anything tells me they don't have anything to say. In the past UK has said very little in regards to player's eligibility. It was only last year when we were all concerned about Liggins when questions about his eligiblity surfaced. In the end UK said nothing, but Liggins was there ready to play at tip off.

I don't know how this scenario will play out this time around, but in my mind "no news is good news". My guess, Wall will play and play a lot this season. If there are still questions concerning Wall and his amateur status when the season begins, I foresee UK weighing on the side of caution and benching Wall for the minimum game (10%) suspension. As long as UK and the NCAA are ok with such, I think by December this will all be another small bump in the road to glory.

Of course if any news to the contrary breaks, we'll be on top of it. Until then let's not get too ramped up about something that may not amount to anything by Christmas.
