Dodson joining Liggins on Doghouse Lane?
There were rumors floating around even before the Miami game that Darnell Dodson had broken unspecified team rules and that he might not play this week. That was of course before Kentucky found themselves down 18 points in the first half to the unranked Redhawks, and Dodson's outside shooting was badly needed for a comeback.
“I was so mad at him earlier in the week. I said things that I haven't said before and used words that I haven't used before," Coach Calipari said on Wednesday. "The other thing is that Darius is starting to play better and I want to ride him a little bit because I think that he is a big factor in what we are doing. But, he went in and helped us. He didn't do much in the second half, but he came in the first half and stopped the bleeding when we needed it.”
However, Calipari didn't go so far as to say if he had done enough to get out of the doghouse. He also didn't say whether or not Liggins was finally cleared to play yet either... saying simply "he's getting better." No one even knows for sure why DeAndre has been left on the bench for the first four games of the season. After the Morehead game, Calipari said "I don't throw kids under the bus," when he was asked about the Liggins situation.
I guess we'll all have to wait for tonight's game to see if Liggins and Dodson have done enough to get back in Cal's good graces or if they'll spend another night on Doghouse Lane.
More later...
I like how Cal makes his players ACCOUNTABLE for thier missteps. This team will be a well oiled machine come March. Or at least a few players short. lol
