Here are just a few quick thoughts going through my head after watching UK rout an obviously less talented Campbellsville team in the first exhibition game of the year:
- Eric Bledsoe!!!: WOW! With all of the hype surrounding John Wall, I didn't know what to expect with Bledsoe running the point. His speed and athleticism is amazing and some of the best examples were any of his 4 impressive steals and that monster block that sent the ball flying into the stands.
- Darnell Dodson: This super-talented wing player really impressed me last night with his speed and especially his finishing ability after contact on a few tough drives to the basket. I expect great things from Dodson who showed some of his "game-changing" ability last night.
- The Bigs: Patterson looked a little shaky but I am not worried at all because this is one of the few proven players we have coming back this year. Stevenson showed all of us how much heart and desire he can bring to this team by making some strong drives to the rim and scoring an impressive 11 points in his 6 minutes of playing time last night. Orton and Cousins are absolutely huge! They are also exceptionally fast for their size and both seem to have a nose for the ball on defense with Cousins recording 4 blocks and Orton also picking up 1 on the night.
Overall, I think the offense looked a little sloppy at times last night, considering the Cats commited 23 turnovers, but the defense was intense and swarming all night. I expect the offense to look a lot better when Wall becomes eligible, and as the players begin to get a better grasp on the DDM offense.
Don't miss UK in action in the second and final exhibition game against Clarion on Friday night. As always, we'll be talking about it here.
Let me be the first to say that I am glad Matt is posting for the site. I consider him somewhat as my protege even though he is probably better than me in every way imaginable (sans cornhole)... He has been around from the start but I am glad he took the plunge and joined the bbnr staff. Look forward to your posts!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad too! I don't think PPatt looked shakey though... he just didn't get enough shots! He has to be more involved in the offense.
ReplyDeleteThanks Austin!
ReplyDeleteAnd Mike, the main reason i thought PPat looked shaky is because he played 31 minutes and only scored 4 points while having 6 turnovers. I know everyone has an off night so I have not lost any faith in the team's most experienced leader.
I thought Patt looked a second behind. In the blue and white game he seemed to be in the right place at the right time, he just seemed a little off to me. But no worries, he'll be there when it matters.
