Thoughts from the road...

Lot of good things from the game tonight. We saw in the Blue-White game that Dodson could play and he backed those thoughts up again tonight with another solid performance. I expected him to be a contributor but he is showing potential to be an All Conference type standout. His experience over the incoming freshman shows in his aggressiveness. Great start to his career.

Bledsoe had a lot of good moments and you can't help but think that he will benefit a lot from John Wall's pressence. His block in the second half was THE highlight of the evening.

Patterson only took seven shots but any frustrations he had on the offensive side of the ball never showed up in his intensity on defense. What a great example it is to the younger guys when your best player and preseason All American was unphased by a slow night scoring and was genuinely excited about Perry Stevenson's great play. Great omen for the season in my opinion.

Speaking of Perry, it was great to see the Senior get love from the fans and he returned the favor with an inspired effort. Coach said after the game that Perry went from the bench to the rotation tonight so you couldn't really ask for a better night from Perry and I imagine the warm reception he recieved will be a memory he cherishes.

Darius was pretty smooth with the ball throughout. It has been said before and we'll repeat it... He does a lot of things good but nothing great necessarily. He doesn't have to score a ton to contribute to this team's over all success. Still, we would like to see him be
more assertive on offense. He seems comfortable blending in, yet he has the talent to shine.

Cousins and Orton both got banged up a little tonight but were both very effective. It is going to be fun watching them crash the offensive boards for put back dunks among their other good qualities. There is no drop off when you go to Orton which is saying a lot playing behind Pat and Cuz. Both have room for improvement but are light years ahead of anything we have seen in a long time.

Hood and Harris both played pretty well. Their battle alongside Liggins, who didn't see the floor tonight, will be one of the more competitive position battles on this squad. Right now the top seven guys are pretty clear cut, and the rest of the playing time is seemingly up for grabs.

That's all we've got for now but we should have more tomorrow. Be sure to stay tuned for that and let us know your thoughts about tonight in the comments section.

  1. Great stuff Austin, couldn't agree more.

My thoughts in a nutshell, moments of greatness, followed by sloppy if not ugly basketball. They'll get better, so no worries. We forget how young and inexperienced this team is. We also had a decent player out tonight. Not sure if he would of helped, but he could have....I kid, I kid.

Major props to Perry. I really believe he helped himself in a major way tonight. He looked infinitely better than he did in the Blue/White game.

I also agree that Miller needs to be more aggressive. Bledsoe and Cousins are studs. Orton looks natural out there and Pat will be there when it counts.

Still wondering why Liggins didn't get any time with everyone else at least getting a few minutes. I think there's more here than meets the eye.

Cannot wait to see John on Friday.

    Good work tonight guys.
