Austin and Mike did a great job reporting from Rupp tonight and they'll be along tomorrow to give us more thoughts and insights from Lexington. However, with all of the excitement around the exhibition opener and most of the staff traveling to Lexington, we failed to report some big news items of the day.
First of all, Kentucky's own, Rajon Rondo signed a 55 million dollar deal (in principle) to remain the Boston Celtic's starting point guard for a long time to come. Rondo and the Celtics reached the deal after some said it would never materialize until Rondo showed more signs of being a team leader, let alone a franchise player. Yet, Rondo showed up at camp with a new attitude and has been a pleasant surprise to the front office in Boston. His comments about his new 5 year deal only further confirms this point.
"I'm excited, thankful, humbled," Rondo said. "Nothing changes, though. There's still one goal in mind. It's a great opportunity, but I'm focused on winning a championship."
Great to see Rondo represent Kentucky and now Boston with class. We wish him continued success in his career.
In other news, Billy Gillispie pleaded guilty today for DUI charges from earlier this year in Kentucky. Coach Clyde accepted a plea deal that resulted in a $1000 fine, a 30 day license suspension and a commitment to attend an Alcohol Driver's Education program. Let's hope this finally helps Billy get back on track.
Well it's been a busy day at Big Blue Nation Report and there will be plenty of more news throughout the week; including a peek at the Football Cat's in state match up on Saturday, a look ahead at John Wall's debut and more thoughts from tonight's game at Rupp. Stay tuned!

Way to go Rondo!
ReplyDeleteGet well soon Billy...
Glad Rondo got paid! I think he would have likely gotten a similar deal via free agency but he got it from the team that drafted him. I'm glad he got the contract and it is well deserved.
ReplyDeleteAs for Billy I wish him the very best down the road to rehabilitation.
nice post, jlee
