A Blue Christmas...

Gomez here, wishing you all a very Blue Christmas. Of course, despite what Elvis might say, a Blue Christmas for us here in Kentucky is just fine. Fans of Kentucky have plenty to be "Blue" about this Christmas. Both the women's and men's basketball teams are undefeated and the football team is preparing to play in their fourth consecutive Bowl game on Sunday. The success of these teams certainly help to make everything merry and bright this Christmas.

The men's basketball team did their part yesterday, holding on to beat a determined but undermanned Long Beach State team. The thing I've enjoyed the most in the past few games is watching DeAndre Liggins begin to contribute to this team. I've always enjoyed an underdog story... Rocky, Hoosiers, Rudy, and now, DeAndre Liggins. We still don't know what kept the kid from playing in the first ten games or so, but at this point, it doesn't matter. The main thing is, the kid stuck around and now he's getting his chance. Good for him.

Kentucky plays Hartford next and then the Dirty Birds of The Ville... the one we're all waiting for. If Santa is rounding up a few last second gifts for Big Blue Nation, a pounding of the Cardinals would be swell. We don't have to yak about why this game is so important, because its all water under the bridge. At this point, we're just ready to see the game go down and have the results we've been dreaming of since Coach Cal came to Kentucky.

Another gift I'd love to have is a fourth Bowl win in as many years. Rich Brooks and Company had their ups and downs this year, but a Music City Bowl championship over Clemson would be a great finish and another positive step forward for next season. Santa... get it done.

Well, I've rambled on long enough. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas to all of you guys. May it be Merry and Bright... and BLUE!
