If you ever wondered why so many coaches love it when they can get a core group of guys to hang around for 3+ seasons, watch a UK basketball game in the first half of this season. Between completely unimaginable mental lapses, deadpan intensity, and handling the ball like you're playing a game of 21 with your buddies, Coach Cal was right-- this IS a 4-5 team... who just happens to have unquestioned, and unrealized talent (yes, despite numerous attempts (one) to make that grammatically correct, I just don't think it happened). Enough to have overcome the fact that, for all intents and purposes, they just beat a legitimate top 10-15 team, in their backyard, in the Mecca of college basketball, by playing exactly one half of good basketball.
If this team can maintain this type of success after they finally realize what it should take to win... wow.

I agree, TJ. If this team ever puts it together for a full forty minutes... watch out.
ReplyDeleteGood post.
They'll be a different team by March. We are going through some growing pains and still winning games, that's a good sign.
ReplyDeleteWe are winning the 50-50 games that we were losing under G and Tubby.
ReplyDeleteWe are winning the toss-up games... purely on talent. It's sooo refreshing! Don't get me wrong-- the Tubbster had some talent on his teams (especially the talent he inherited from Pinto-Bean), but NOTHING like this.
