Multiple UK "insiders", including the fine folks over at Catspause, are reporting that the Cats will likely end up back in Nashville for the Music City Bowl. The chips started to fall earlier today when a media source out of Knoxville reported that the Vols were headed to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. That left Georgia and Kentucky fighting it out for the Music City bid. Since the news out of Tennessee, more info came from Georgia that they had been invited to the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, LA.
It's a little disappointing that Kentucky is headed back to Nashville when you consider that they were literally a play or two away from Tampa or Atlanta. Still, MCB is a great bowl environment and practically a home field advantage for the Cats. It's even better when you consider that Shreveport was their other possible bid. The ACC opponent is up for grabs for the MCB, but UNC is an early favorite for the invite. Kentucky and North Carolina playing in a bowl game? Interesting when you consider where both of these programs were just a few seasons ago. Of course, with the built in rivalry ready to bleed over from the hardwood, consider me interested. My bet is a lot of fans on both sides will feel the same. More about the Cat's Bowl destination when it becomes official.
If someone had told me at the beginning of the season that UK would win 7 games and go to the MCB I would of taken it!
ReplyDeleteWe would love to be playing in Music City.
ReplyDeleteI picked UK to go 8-4, I was oh so close. Still with all of the adversity, 7-5 and a Music City Bowl bid is far from a bad season for our standards.
ReplyDeleteDespite my displeasure with some the Tennessee and Mississippi State games (two games we should have won) I'm glad to be Bowling once again. The MCB is better than no Bowl at all... that's for sure.
