Roy Williams doesn't mess with Hose...

Roy Williams has caused quite a stir in the college basketball world this weekend and it wasn't because of his team's 40 point win over the Presbyterian Blue Hose (which is a Scottish Warrior for those like me who had no idea what that mascot was). Instead, Roy made news when he got into a shouting match with a Blue Hose fan who reportedly was heckling the Tar Heels late in the game on Saturday. The incident happen when the crowd grew silent for a North Carolina free throw attempt. Apparently the "heckler" said, "don't miss it Deon" or something very similar to that. Roy then turned around and began sparing with the fan and then eventually asked security to have him removed. When asked about the situation in the post game presser Roy said he didn't want to make a bigger deal out of it then it should be.

So let's get this straight Roy. You are asking the media and fans of college basketball to not overreact about you overreacting?

The fan was not drunk or cursing or doing anything that would of warranted the reaction that he received from Roy. Why did Roy even care? His team was up by like a billion and he still had several starters in the game running up the score even more. Heaven forbid that the one Blue Hose fan in the stands had the audacity to say something as horrible as, "Don't miss it Deon."

I am not sure what the public backlash will be for this, but I hope Roy is embarrassed by his actions, which were far worse than that of the "heckler" (if you can even call him that). I mean the security and local police escorted him from the stands like he had a shoe bomb or something. It really was a classless act by the coach and a bush league reaction from what has typically been a very respectable program and school. When the dust settles, I believe Roy will regret his actions but until then I hope everyone gives him his due criticism.

You can see video of the incident here.

  1. Roy puts on the good ole boy routine when the camera's are on, but I haven't ever bought into it. I think he is a prick, and this action only backs that up further.. it will be interesting to see if anything is made of it.. If this was Coach Calipari, I think it would be a huge controversy, but I think Cal has a ton more class than ole Roy... Cal had plenty to be upset about and he handled it with style and grace.

  2. Just Roy being Roy. I found this to make Roy look dumb so I'm all for it. I've never really liked Williams so I hope this blows up to the point he has to make a public apology.

  3. What a moron. A fan of the opposing team isn't allowed to cheer against your homeboys, Roy?

    Grow up.
