Sports has done its part in bailing out the newspaper industry over the past weeks. There have been numerous intriguing stories to break in the past week, we don't have to re-hash them all here. One must wonder if maybe Ron Artest has gotten more media savvy now that he is in LA? He chose this week to publicly admit to drinking before games and during halftime while a member of the Chicago Bulls. If you were going to pick a time to say or do something really dumb, now was that time. Things that would normally cause an uproar have been swept under the rug in the wake of the Tiger Woods saga. Nice job Ron Artest!
One story that broke today that I really liked was Rajon Rondo challenging Tennessee Titan's RB Chris Johnson to a race for 200k. It is good to hear that Rondo has learned from former Celtic and Kentucky Wildcat Antoine Walker. Combining poor money management with gambling have worked out pretty well for Twan, and it is good to see Rajon taking that lesson to heart... Rumor has it that Rondo has a deal in place that would include Charles Barkley in the race. Chuck will be driving a KIA Rondo, which will sponsor the event. Winner takes all. (Watching the Celtics vs Spurs on TNT right now, and they told a story about how Usain Bolt visited the Celtics last year.... Rondo told him he could beat him in a race. Gotta love Rondo.) As you can see in the picture above, Rondo doesn't believe legs are required to win a foot race with the fastest man in the NFL.That is swagger. Hats off to Rondo.
As members of the Big Blue Nation though, we are directing (most of) our focus to an actual athletic competition. With all that is going on in the wide world of sports, there is no bigger story than the UK vs. UNC game as far as the Bluegrass State is concerned (which is amazing considering the other stories out there). Just further proof that UK Basketball is THE top dog in this state. More on the most important story in sports leading up to the big game.

ReplyDeleteThat Artest stuff cracks me up.
ReplyDeleteNow Artest is saying he did it for the kids? What the hell?
