Cal's Cats: Thursday UK News
-I’m getting asked about the latest on recruitment. I haven’t talked much about recruiting lately because there really isn’t anything to tell…Knight, Selby, Leslie, Lamb, etc are talking but their saying the same thing.
All are still very high on UK but none seem to be in any hurry to make decisions. There were rumors last week Leslie had committed but nothing has come public so far.
The problem is all of UK’s top recruits are waiting to see who is leaving. Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Cousins, Patterson and maybe even Orton could leave after this year for the draft if they wanted to. With there being so much potential for a huge turnover or even the possibility of majority of these coming back…recruits want to know what they are getting into. So many may not decide until it is clear what UK will be bringing back next year.
-UK is now number one in ESPN Power rankings and Sports Illustrated. Being the only undefeated team in the country, a voter would really have to show their anti UK colors to not vote for UK at this point.

-We play Arkansas Saturday and this game does scare me. After watching UK play everyone close I guess everyone scares me. Arkansas’ record is misleading because most of their losses came with Fortson out, he is back. A point guard is your floor general and we saw last year what a team looks like if you don’t have a good one. Since he has been back they have done well including a beat down against Alabama, only a two point loss to Miss. St., and a close game with Texas.
Rotnei Clarke is that typical white guard that seems to nail every three they throw up in Rupp. If he is nailing everything he throws up then we have reasons to be concerned.
I am hoping Clarke is guarded tightly and shut down and UK who has been known to only play hard for about 28 minutes realized if they win they are the new number one and they go out and get our first SEC route.
Our biggest win this year was our win for 2,000 against Drexel in which we won by 44. Of course it was Drexel…but this did show when the players saw it was important they went out and played hard on offense and defense the whole game.
-Dinner with Cal and Ashley Judd sold $98,100 all proceeds going to Haiti. It’s nice to know how much UK is doing to help an important cause.
-Memphis tried to break UK’s all time record of consecutive conference wins which we have held since the 50’s at 65 straight conference wins. Just think how long it would take you to accumulate that many wins. Memphis had not lost a conference game since early 2006 and they went down last night at Memphis to UTEP.
Quite a few twist in this story. One of course most of Memphis’ consecutive wins were under Cal and if he was not hired at UK he would have brought in Wall, Cousins, Henry, Dodson, etc to Memphis and they would have broke UK’s record last night.
Next, they lost to UTEP. For those who know the history of UTEP they were formerly Texas Western the team known for upsetting UK in the 1966 National Championship game.
The next twist is a UTEP player who I never saw ever rooting for…Derrick Caracter who transferred from little brother the Louisville Cardinals. I rooted for Caracter hard last night who had a decent game with 14 points.
The last twist I can think of is UTEP is a program that BCG was able to go in and turn around…I guess you could argue if BCG didn’t succeed there and eventually succeed at A&M he never comes here and Cal may have been here two years ago…
-Speaking of Louisville they are currently in a battle with Seton Hall in the second half. Go Pirates!
-What about Duke and UNC both losing last night? This hasn’t happened since 2003 and UNC is about to see their first non ranked team in years. If UK wins Saturday, we will be ranked #1 the same time UNC finds it way out. Think of where UNC and UK were last year…my how things have changed…
Arkansas plays Florida tonight, even though a Arkansas win may give Arkansas more confidence Saturday I will be rooting for Pelphrey and the Razorbacks…it’s hard to ever root for the Gators…
Go Cats!

Who is asking you about recruiting? Where do you get your info? Inside source, or from Dustin @ KSR. I am just wondering, do you go to UK or something?
ReplyDeleteCal's Cats through facebook has over 6,000 readers and many are asking from there.
ReplyDeleteI am no insider but of those 6,000 plus are a lot of random and some not so random connections with UK. Then of course I look around for what is out there, many of the followers do not spend a lot of time searching elsewhere for UK news.
