Gomez here...
That light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train, its the weekend, and its almost here... so just hang on for a bit longer.
:: As Austin pointed out last night, there was a hat trick of losses that should have pleased Kentucky fans last night. North Carolina and Duke lost, which is always nice, and Memphis lost their first C-USA game in forever, which allows Kentucky to continue to share the record of consecutive conference wins for a D-1 team. Meanwhile, UConn won their first game since Calhoun's sudden medical leave, and that helps us in the RPI rankings. We really need them to beat Texas this weekend, too, but the main thing right now is it was a very nice night for UK fans last night.
:: All this talk about Bledsoe going pro makes me a little uneasy. A few weeks ago, he wasn't on any one's radar as a first round pick, and only a few analysts even had him as a late second round pick. Matter of fact, most experts didn't have him anywhere on the draft board at all. However, the kid's stock has risen rapidly as of late, and now some even think he could be a lottery pick by this summer's draft. If this pans out to be an accurate assessment of his likely draft position, you can say goodbye to Eric, as he'll most likely join the mass exodus out of Lexington this summer.
:: At this point, it might be easier to list who will be coming back next season as opposed to who will be leaving. Right now, the only safe bets are Dodson, Liggins, Miller, Orton, Hood and Harrellson. The only player to join them for sure will be new recruit Stacey Poole. Now, that list of players is nothing to sneeze at, but they're going to need some serious help if we hope to have continued success on the national scene. Cal and his assistants are still recruiting hard for the services of Knight, Leslie, Selby and others, but none of these have yet to indicate their intentions. Let's hope we seal the deal with at least two of these before the deadline.
:: The Lady Cats host Arkansas at Memorial tonight. They're 14-3 and playing very good basketball right now. The gals finally snuck into the Top 25 at #25, and even though they probably deserve to be higher on the chart, its nice to finally see them get recognized for their accomplishments this season. Tonight, they'll be honoring former football coach, Rich Brooks.
:: On the men's side tonight, Arkansas hosts Billy D and the Florida Gators. It'll be interesting to see how the Razorbacks perform against Florida as we prepare to play them at Rupp on Saturday. This is the second week in a row that Kentucky has played a team on Saturday that had just played on Thursday night. That's a quick turn around for any team, and especially when you have to travel. I'm not sure that really worked in our favor against Auburn, or if it will against Arkansas either, but something worth noting, nonetheless.
:: The auction for dinner with Ashley Judd and the Calipari family went for $96,000. An amazing sum of money that just reaffirms the craziness of Big Blue Nation. It's also worth noting that this cash is going to help the people of Haiti and that's a very good thing.
Well, that's all for now... check back throughout the day for more news, views and more cool stuff like that.
