Gomez here, and it's Friday, which means the weekend is only a few short hours away, so lets jump right into the morning news...
:: Tennessee took care of business last night in the Knox, beating up on our next opponent, Auburn, with a final score of 81-55. This is amazing considering Tennessee trailed for most of the first half and only had a one point lead at the break. However, Auburn just isn't that good, and when Tennessee finally started playing defense, the Tigers fell apart. UK should win huge tomorrow.
:: Also in the SEC, Arkansas battled back (numerous times) to give Mississippi State all they wanted in Starkville, but ultimately lost the contest, 82-80. You get the feeling while watching Arkansas that they're really close to putting it all together, and for Pelphrey's sake, I hope they do. Having Fortson back helps the Razorbacks but if Clarke's three point shots aren't falling, they have problems scoring the ball consistently. Maybe the powers that be will give Pelphrey more time to build the program up, especially with the amount of adversity they've had to endure since he's been there.
:: On the NBA Draft watch, Kentucky has three players in the projected top 14: 1.) Wall 9.) Patterson 14.) Cousins. While Bledsoe has mentioned wanting to go to the NBA as soon as possible, so far he isn't even projected anywhere in the first two rounds, so it should be a safe bet that he'll return to Kentucky next season. His high school coach thinks this would be best for him, as well. Of course, his high school coach also thought going to Kentucky and playing with John Wall was a bad choice, so maybe we shouldn't care what he thinks.
:: Man, how the mighty have fallen. Once the toast of the SEC, and the nation, Tennessee is having a hard time finding anyone to take over their program. The latest coach to turn them down is Duke head coach, David Cutliffe. Ouch. You might remember Cutliffe as Tennessee's offensive coordinator under Phil Fulmer. How desperate they must be to go after an assistant to the man they ran off just a couple of years ago. LA Tech's Derek Dooley is still on Tennessee's radar, as is Temple's head coach, Al Golden.
:: In some strange, and very sad news, Southern Indiana's Jeron Lewis has died after falling and hitting his head in a game at Kentucky Wesleyan College last night. Lewis was apparently playing defense when his feet got tangled up with another players, causing the fall. Lewis is survived by one son, Jamel, who was just born last month. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lewis family.
:: Well, that's all for now. Keep checking back throughout the day for more updates.
