There's a New Line in Town

It's no secret in the Commonwealth that as soon as the UK Football team has taken their last snap, the unevenly divided attention between the end of Football and the beginning of basketball becomes strictly a focus on the court. But UK football has certainly made a splash this off season with PawPaw moving out of the big office and Joker moving in.

Joker has shaken things up, leaving some scratching their head. He immediately sent the O-Line and D-Line coaches on their way. Taking over are Joe B Hall's son-in-law and an assistant in Joker's freshman year of football at UK, Mike Summers. Summers comes over from Arkansas where he coached under former Louisville coach Petrino. Yesterday Joker replaced D-Line coach Rick Petri with another SEC line coach, David Turner. Turner comes over from the Bulldogs of Mississippi St.

It's no secret that these moves were probably personal to Joker and probably had a lot to do with recruiting. While the coaches that are departing are no doubt some of the best in developing players, I think Joker wants to compete on a higher level in recruiting and hopefully bring in guys who are just better players and need less development. If this works it will be great to see instant impact guys instead of year after year projects.

  1. You have to give it to Joker for being a man and doing what he thinks is right for his program. At the same time, he's putting himself out there. If the team doesn't perform like some are hoping, then the buck stops with him.
