During a slow week, where frigid temperatures and snow fall have most Kentuckians staying in, there hasn't been a whole lot to talk about either. Kentucky didn't have a mid-week game, so there wasn't anything to break down or preview, and the rumor mill is basically still.
However, one rumor is gaining some momentum on the internet, and that is the rumor that Tennessee's Tyler Smith will be suspended from the team for the remainder of the season. This is not official, and specifics on situations like these can change at a moment's notice. However, seeing how the UT AD has recently spoke publicly about his displeasure with the negative press the school has received, I would be shocked if these four players return to the court this season.
In other random news, OJ Mayo's agent is reporting that Mayo still denies taking money or gifts before or during his time at USC. This statement is coming after USC announced a self-imposed ban on post-season play this season because of former coach, Tim Floyd, and Mayo's wrongdoings. Apparently, when the decision was made, the Trojans were expected to be pretty bad so a post-season ban would simply mean missing a game or two in the PAC-10 tourney. However, the current USC team has gelled and are playing really well, which is leaving a bad taste in the mouth of both the fans and current players; especially now that it seems they would've played in either the NIT or NCAA tournament at season's end.
Also in the news, Cornell and the fighting Mark Coury's went to Lawrence, Kansas last night and nearly pulled the massive upset. Former Wildcat starter, Mark Coury did manage 2 points and 7 rebounds against the #1 Jayhawks, and somewhere, Billy Gillispie smiled to himself. Since I didn't see the game, I'm sorry to say that I cannot testify as to whether or not Coury broke out the infamous sports goggles for the big time match-up.
Kentucky plays Georgia on Saturday, and UK fans should check their local listings to find which channel they can see the game. The NFL is demanding their postseason games be shown regardless of syndication agreements with local affiliates. For example, WPSD in Paducah has scrambled around to find an alternative channel for the game since WPSD TV is obligated to carry the football game. I don't think there should be any worries, as the game will most likely land somewhere for every provider but maybe not in it's usual spot. If you're a DirecTV or Dish customer, you might be out of luck, however.
That's all for now, Cat fans. More later...
Dish customers in western KY can find it on ch. 409. I'm guessing you must have the sports package to get it.
