Wednesday News and Views and Stuff...

Gomez here...

Well the Kentucky Gator Hunters, also known as the Wildcats, took care of business last night, and I only have one thing to say about it... woOt wO0t! Seriously though, I had predicted for Kentucky to lose their first game at Florida last night, and for once, I'm glad I was wrong. It doesn't happen very often, and when it does it rarely comes with good results, but this time, being wrong was a positive.

It was an interesting game for the Wildcats with some odd performances. Someone that didn't know any better might have thought Eric Bledsoe was the freshman phenom, and not Wall. Bledsoe had 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, which were all career highs. Of course, John Boy came through in the end, hitting some big shots from the floor and big free throws from the line to ice the game. Patterson had another one of those games where he sorta just disappeared for a little while and then had a couple of huge dunks to remind everyone that he was still there. And what about Daniel Orton's block party? Fun stuff for sure. Meanwhile, players like Harris and Liggins were put on the bench and didn't get to see much action.

Overshadowing the UK game on ESPN all night was the Lane Kiffin announcement, which I admit, came as a shocker to me. Leaving after only one year isn't unheard of in college sports, but its still unexpected. Huggy Bear left Kansas State after one season to go to his home school of West Virginia, and this is kinda the same situation here. Kiffin was an assistant at USC for several seasons and then coached the Oakland Raiders after that, so he's basically going back home and who can blame him for that? The big question for us now is who will Tennessee go after next and how will that affect SEC football in the coming years. You can guarantee Joker is watching the process very closely.

Well enough of that, lets talk about basketball for crying out loud. After all, this is Kentucky! Next on the Wildcats' schedule is a Saturday afternoon date with the Auburn Tigers. Before that game, Auburn has to play at Tennessee on Thursday night and then quickly travel home to get ready for the Wildcats. Talk about a tough little conference swing. To make matters worse, Auburn just isn't that good. They're 9-7 overall with some truly bad losses on their resume. They've also lost their only SEC game, falling by 9 to South Carolina at home. Kentucky should win and win big at Auburn, but as we all know, we probably shouldn't count on that. This is the SEC and every game is a battle.

Well this post kicks off another action packed day at BBNR... check back often for more news and views throughout the day.

  1. I sure hope that Gator is dead. The adult doesn't look so sure.
