Gomez here...
The final polls before Selection Sunday have been released, and just like most predicted last October, the top two teams are Kansas and Kentucky. Both teams have moved up and down throughout the season, but as always, these things sort themselves out in the end.
Actually, it's pretty cool how similar the Wildcats and Jayhawks seasons have been so far. Both have 29-2 records overall and are 14-2 in their respective conferences. Both went undefeated at home and only lost two conference road games. You can't help but feel like these two teams have been on a collision course towards one another all year long, so hopefully they'll be able to hook up in the dance. Anyway, if you're interested in the polls, you can view the complete rankings here.
The top four are the same in both major polls and the RPI: Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse and Duke, so without a major shake up in the conference tournaments this week, those will also be your number one seeds on Sunday. In my opinion, Kansas, Kentucky and Syracuse are locks but if Duke was to get upset in the ACC tourney, and if Purdue was to win the Big 10, the Boilermakers could move up into that fourth number one seed position.
The overall #1 seed is still in play. If Kansas loses in the Big 12, and if Kentucky wins the SEC, the Wildcats should take the top position. Meanwhile, if Kansas and Kentucky were both to lose this week, and if Syracuse wins the Big East tourney, the Orange could take it.
As always, March is unpredictable, so there's no way to know for sure how this will shake out, but I still believe one of those three teams will earn the overall #1 spot regardless of what happens in the conference tourneys. But what do I know? Not much really, but I appreciate you reading my ramblings, nonetheless.
Stay tuned, sports fans.

ReplyDeleteI don't want to get too excited, but it sure seems like there is a chance that not all of our players will go pro. I like what I am hearing, but in the end it could be too much money for these kids to pass up. I guess we'll figure it all out after the Cats cut down some nets.
ReplyDeleteGOMEZ you crazy psycho. Kansas lost a non-conference road game (Tenn)
ReplyDeleteHowever both did lose to same team (Tenn again) and both on the road. However Kansas lost after Tenn had just lost 4 of its players; UK played them at full strength (minus 1)
