SEC Tourney Preview... (just random thoughts really)

Gomez here...

The brackets are set, and the SEC tourney is going to begin in just a few short days, so lets preview what is about to be a great week of college basketball in the south...

First off, my overall thoughts about the SEC brackets are somewhat negative, which is par for the course for me, I guess, or so I've been told. Anyway, even though Kentucky won the SEC regular season title, they have the toughest path to the finals, in my opinion, of any of the top 4 seeds. Right off the bat, they'll most likely have to play the streaky and hard to defend Gamecocks of South Carolina, which just beat Vandy (at Vandy) Saturday.

After that, Kentucky gets the winner of (most likely) Ole Miss and Tennesee, which will almost certainly be the Vols. So let's get this straight... in order for Kentucky to advance to the SEC finals on Sunday, they'll have to beat the only two teams that they've lost to all year... South Carolina and Tennessee. Is that poetic justice? Only if we beat the dog snot out of 'em.

Just for the record, I think Vandy has the easiest path of the top four seeds. They'll have to beat most likely Arkansas and Florida to advance to the finals, or maybe Mississippi State. Either way, it'll be easier than having to stop Downey or beat the fighting Pearls of Ole' Rocky Top... in my opinion, of course.

The SEC Semifinals are certainly shaping up to be awesome though... almost a final four type feeling to it. It'll most likely be Kentucky, Tennessee, Vandy and Florida in the final four of the tourney, which would be pretty cool seeing four SEC east teams face off to decide the eventual champ. Of course, they don't call it March Madness for nothing, so there could be some upsets along the way. It should be fun, to say the least.

As always, we'll be breaking down the games in greater detail later this week, and we're even sending a team of our best bloggers down to Nashville to give us a full report of what's going on in the tournament trenches in Nashville.

So, stay tuned for me SEC-T coverage all week!

  1. I don't really mind the draw. Does anyone think that USC is good enough to beat Kentucky 2 out of 3? The same for UT. I don't think anyone in the SEC can beat UK 2 out of 3 times for that matter.

If Darius and Dodson are knocking down 3s there will be no stopping us in Nashville. Austin, Toon and I will all be there reporting live from the Big Blue Mist that is about invade.

  2. Hey thanks for the invite to Ville boys.
    Anyway,

I agree, I don't think anyone can beat us in Nashville. We do have a crappy draw, but we'll be fine. I think it sucks the time the games are. Why are we playing the early game Fri? You would think they would have us playn' later Fri. evening, giving everyone time to get to Nashville Friday night. Taboot (not even a word) we will play Sat. early too. Oh well, we gotta concentrate on our first game first.
You never know who we'll play, this has been a crazy SEC year, Alabama could beat USC, and Ole Miss could knock off Tenn. you never know.

    later

  3. Midge,
Maybe if you would return a phone call I could of talked to you about it.

We did have to pay out the rear for the seats though, would you have committed?

  4. Oh, and about the times. It's supposed to be an advantage because we don't have to play Friday night and then turn around and play again Saturday at noon. That's a quick turn around.
