As you have probably already heard, Bobby Johnson has stepped down as head coach at Vanderbilt. This comes as a big surprise to everyone, especially with football season quickly approaching, now just a little over a month away.
Johnson was quick to point out that it was for personal reasons and not related to his or his wife's health. Still, the timing is odd, and it will certainly hurt Vandy, both in the short and long term.
Johnson led Vandy to a 2008 bowl game win, and the Commodores have competed more under his watch then in any other era that I can recall. Vandy is a unique situation and requires a different approach then most SEC schools.
Their search for a replacement will likely be slow given it's the time of year most coaches aren't looking to make a move.
