Joe Crawford?

In the post about UK in the NBA I published earlier, some of you inquired about Joe Crawford's current status.

Apparently Joe is returning to the LA Defenders NBDL team. If I am not mistaken, Joe's partially guaranteed contract with the Knicks will pay him 100k for the upcoming season. That financial security will give him an opportunity to be patient in the D-League and wait for a better opportunity to present itself from the NBA. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him catch on with a team with a ten-day contract at some point. He seems to be just barely on the outside looking in right now, and when injuries start plauging NBA squads he may very well get an opportunity. Those guys get around $30-50K for that short period of work. Not bad for doing what you love.

In my opinion, somebody in Joe's situation is better off toiling away in the NBDL for a few years in hopes of sticking with an NBA squad before rushing off to Europe. There is likely more money for him right now in Europe than the NBDL, but the potential for catching on with an NBA team is too great to risk going overseas just yet. Joe is facing very similar road to the NBA as Azubuike a few years ago in my opinion, and I hope things work out as well for Joe as they did for him.
