UK vs. Clarion State Quick Recap

Kentucky is back baby. We haven't seen a performance like this in a good long while. Sure, the game was against Division II Clarion State, but it was still a blast to watch. John Wall scored 27 points, dished 9 assists, and grabbed four rebounds. He was clearly the player of the game. Meanwhile, fellow freshman, Demarcus Cousins scored 20 points and pulled down 6 boards.

If there was a downer, Orton left the game in the first half with an injury and didn't return. I don't really think he'll be out long, but you still hate to see the kid slowed down this early on in the season.

Also of note, DeAndre Liggins didn't play again tonight, giving more weight to the rumor of possible wrong doing on his part. We'll have to wait and see. Cal is still being tight-lipped about it.

Well that's all for now... Jeremy and Austin are covering the post game stuff at Rupp, so expect to hear from them later.

  1. A very fun game to watch, that's for sure. Glad to see the offense put up that many points. That was without Bledsoe and Liggins too. Can't wait to see them at full strength.

  2. I'm being told Liggins may be out for a few more weeks because of a mistake he made. Some rumors have been academics and maybe it involved academics in some way but it seems to be more then just poor grades...

Orton's injury was odd, I went back and looked at the play apx. 13 min mark of the first half. He is battling for a ball in the paint and after this play comes out hurt. He didn't look like anyone hit him hard, so it was an odd turn of events.

  3. Yeah, I didn't see how exactly Orton was injured. Odd indeed.

I hate it that Liggins has issues. I want the kid to succeed and help the team.

  4. Like Austin said, we saw him after the game and he didn't seem to beat up. Very nice kid, opened the door for us and everything.

The official word is day to day, I don't expect him out long.

  5. the Liggins situation deals with something that he did last year, before Calipari came on board. It doesn't involve grades. Or attitude. Or playing abilities. It is a mistake he made during the team meltdown last year. It will probably and hopefully never come out in the open. Just know this, most students in college do what he did. Those students are just lower profile and not the object of the magnifying glass. Deandre is happy and so is Cal. He'll play soon enough.
