Wildcat Memories

Ever since I was old enough to have a memory, I always remember being a Kentucky Basketball fan. I guess you could say I was just raised that way. On every Christmas or birthday, I would always have a new UK shirt, hat, or pair of socks to enjoy. You see, to everyone else in the country, basketball is just a sport. But, here in The Big Blue Nation, basketball is a way of life.

I remember growing up as a child watching Kentucky Basketball on my grandparents console television on cold winter nights, while drinking hot chocolate and eating junk food. ''Christopher, you had better get in bed; you have school tomorrow,'' my grandma would say.

In some cases, after a big win, I would hurry into bed just so I could wake up and get to school to talk to all my friends about it. Then there were nights when we would lose, and I would have trouble sleeping because I thought the whole world had just ended. There are so many great memories that we can all relate to, depending on our age, from teams like Rupp's Runts or The Untouchables, all the way up to the team that we have this year and the new Calipari era.

That's enough about my memories though. We want to hear your most memorable Kentucky Basketball moments. It could be something from this season, or it could be from when you were a child. Last night's game was definitely one for the books. So, just leave your story in the comments section below. If you're having trouble recalling any specific moments, here is a little video I found on YouTube a while back, updated with a little of this year's team special moments. Enjoy...

  1. Here's my top five favorite moments in UK basketball history (my 32 years of living, anyway)

1.) The 1996 championship, especially the win over UMass in the Final Four

2.) The 1998 championship run, especially the win over Duke

3.) February 16, 1994: Down by 31 points with only 15 minutes to go, Kentucky goes on a huge rally to defeat LSU, 99-95.

4.) February 15, 1990: Unranked Kentucky defeats #12 LSU (with Shaq) in Rick Pitino's first season at UK. Final score: 100-95

5.) April 2, 2009: John Calipari is named the new Head Coach of Kentucky Basketball

  3. One of my favorites was the comeback against Duke in the '98 Regional Finals. Came back from 18 points down in the second half.

Why is it one of my favorite moments? Because it was right then and there I knew that Orlando should not be our coach. He sat on TO's... and allowed the deficit swell to 18.

Yes, we cam back and won, but still... on that stage, in a game of that magnitude. you gotta call a timeout... or hope you're totally stacked (as we were)!
