Afternoon notes...

Not to totally overshadow the superbness that is Reno's running diary, I do need to throw in some afternoon notes that many of you might find interesting...

:: Rumors all over the internet say that Auburn is after Tubby Smith, and that the Tubbster is very interested in the job. Auburn fired Jeff Lebo after a very disappointing tenure in which he only had one winning season and no NCAA appearances. Tubby Smith's Minnesota team lost today to Xavier, so don't be shocked to hear more about this interesting rumor very soon.

:: Jeff Drumond is reporting that Brandon Knight has already made a verbal commitment to John Calipari and Kentucky and that it will be officially announced soon. We reported on this rumor a couple of weeks ago, and it just continues to gain steam with each passing day. Still there are many recruiting analysts that say it isn't a done deal yet, so don't count on it just yet.

:: Somehow I missed this, and though its not really Kentucky related, its still a cool piece of news. If you followed Kentucky basketball in the 90's, you remember the heated rilvary between Kentucky and Arkansas and their star player Corliss Williamson. Well, Central Arkansas University fired their coach after a 9-21 season and hired Williamson to take over. Again, nothing earth shattering, but still a cool note for those of us that remember him as one of the best players in the SEC during the Pitino era.

:: Speaking of coaching changes, Billy Gillisipie's name has floated around for some of the bigger openings still on the table. Currently Auburn, St. John's, Oregon, Seton Hall, Iowa and Boise State are all looking for coaches, and while Auburn is close to landing Tubby, don't be surprised to hear Gillispie's name mentioned in connection with these other job searches.
